I am, however, a BIG fan of hearts, Trader Joes Dark Chocolate Heart Truffles, cheesy Phineas and Ferb Valentines for my friends, and the red, black, and white color combination. I also love decorating for any holiday. So I went on a Pinterest mission to find all kinds of cute crafts for Valentine's Day decorating about 3 weeks ago. Football took over my weekend life in the process and as of yesterday I had not attempted a single craft on my list. While chatting with a friend yesterday, I mentioned this to her and said it was pretty pointless to do this all now and her response was, "not if you do it tonight!". So I promptly headed for Beverly's after work, spent 45 minutes trying to gather all of my supplies and got to crafting! Props Lorin for getting me motivated.
Project Number 1: Lips & 'Staches Bouquet
Supplies Needed:
1. Glitter card stock - This can be found in the scrap booking section of nearly any craft store. Each piece of paper is about $2.50 so it's a little pricey. I used my scraps for another project to come later though! They were out of brown or anything resembling blond so I just went silver. Who doesn't love a silver fox?!
2. Sparkling pipe cleaners - I used silver for the lips and a dark red for the mustaches
3. Tape
4. Scissors
5. Vase - I got mine at the dollar store
My original inspiration for this came from this blog where she created these as photo booth props. I had 2 empty vases and wanted to use them so that's why I went bouquet. You can also buy the lips and mustache cutouts but I thought it was fun to make my own.
Steps
- Draw as many different styles of lips and mustaches as you feel like on the back of the card stock. I did 5 sets of lips each in red and pink, then 6 mustaches each in black and silver.
- Cut out all your pieces. I used an xacto knife to cut out some of the inside pieces on the lips but scissors are fine for the rest.
- Tape each piece to one piece of pipe cleaner. I originally taped the pipe cleaner off to the side but then I put a few in the center so they would stay in the middle of my vase. Otherwise they turn backwards unless they are on the sides. I also cut the pipe cleaners down to different lengths so they could all be seen in the vase.
- Arrange in your vase and display for everyone to see! I may actually keep these up year round because I think they are so awesome.
I have at least 2 more projects to share but I had a few set backs including the inability to find a bag of red buttons anywhere in San Luis Obispo and time. Stay tuned for more project posts in the next day or two though!
